I Crochet only, but «boucle», being a «type» of yarn, allows for making any item. I made a simple short sleeved Tee Shirt style top. Worked up nicely. Kept its shape. Soft.
I am unsure if it matters if the rows of stitches are worked horizontally or vertically. Mine was worked vertically. Did not stretch too much. Maybe 2 inches from blocking. Just right. But Crochet is different.
